Pantera - Discografia

O Pantera surgiu em 1981 com Terry Glaze nos vocais, Dimebag Darrel na guitarra, Vinnie Paul na bateria e Rex Down no baixo. No primeiro álbum da banda, ''Metal Magic'' de 1983, o gênero da banda era bastante glam rock, com os integrantes vestindo-se tipicamente como os músicos do gênero, com botas coloridas, maquiagem, roupas coloridas etc...Porém dez dessa época já se notava o grande potencial dos músicos. Nos dois próximos álbuns, ''Projects in the jungle'' de 1984 e ''I Am the night'' de 1985 continuaram no mesmo estilo glam rock. Então, após o vocalista Terry Glaze sair da banda, em 1988 saiu um novo álbum com o novo vocalista Phil Anselmo, o álbum ''Power Metal'' foi gravado com o intuito de soar mais pesado que os álbuns anteriores, realmente mostrou uma banda mais madura e pesada, Phil Anselmo cantava bastante semelhante como sua maior influência nos vocais, Rob Halford do Judas Priest, as faixas ''Burnnn'' e ''Death trap'' já mostrava o que viria futuramente. Em 1989 assinaram contrato com a gravadora ATCO, e em 1990 sai o primeiro sucesso considerado um dos melhores álbuns da década, ''Cowboys From Hell'' foi um sucesso estrondoso vendendo milhares de cópias e levando a banda a outro nível. A banda deixou totalmente seus elementos hard rock e se voltaram totalmente ao que chamam de ''thrash-groove'' devido ao estilo próprio da banda de tocar Thrash Metal, destaque para das faixas ''Cowboys From Hell'', ''Cemetery Gates'', ''Domination'' e ''Message in blood''. Em 1992 sai o álbum de mais sucesso ''Vulgas Display of Power'' que contém hinos do metal como ''Walk'', ''Mouth of War'' e ''This Love'', no álbum também contem outros sucessos como ''Hollow'', ''Rise'' e ''Fucking Hostile''. Em 1994 sai ''Far Beyond Driven'' que apresenta mudança nas músicas, porém ainda contendo ótimas músicas como ''5 Minutes Alone'' e o cover do Black Sabbath ''Planet Caravan'', a álbum teve um sucesso grande na Austrália e nos E.U.A mesmo com uma crise nos cofres americanos. Já em 1996 sai ''The Great Southern Trendkill'' que teve um sucesso moderado, contendo músicas violentas como a honônima ''The Great Southern Trendkill'', ''Suicide Note Pt 2'' e alguns elementos mais experimentais como ''Floods'' que lembra bastante ''This Love''. A popularidade da banda caiu bastante des de então, alguns clips rolavam na MTV como ''Drag the walters'' mas nada como seus antecessores em se tratando de sucesso. Em 2000 sai o último álbum chamado ''Reiving the steel'' que traz músicas boas como ''Revolution is my name'' e ''Hell Bound'' porém a qualidade caiu bastante nesse álbum. Em 2001 o vocalista Phil Anselmo sai da banda para buscar novos sons com suas bandas paralelas, os irmãos Vinnie Paul e Dimebag Darrel ainda esperavam que o vocalista retornasse, o que acabou não acontecendo, então no dia 8 de Dezembro de 2004, um fã fanático que culpava Darrell pelo fim do Pantera, durante uma apresentação do projeto paralelo de Vinnie Paul e Darrell, o Dimegeplan, assassinou Darrell com vários tiros, antes do guitarrista foram mortos uma empregada do local, um segurança e um membro da platéia por Nathan Gale que foi morto logo depois pelo policial James Niggmeyer. Após a morte de Dimebag Darrell, uma reunião do Pantera ficará impossível, mesmo com rumores do vocalista Phil Anselmo de se reunirem. O Pantera foi uma das grandes e únicas bandas de metal (metal mesmo, não lixos posers new metal que rolava na época) a fazer um grande sucesso nos anos 90 quando a mídia tentava matar o metal definitivamente por não ser um som ''adequado'' no mainstream quando bandas grunge como Nirvana, Soundgarden e Pearl Jam obtinham grande sucesso. O legado da banda permanecerá para sempre influenciando várias bandas que surgiriam durante e após suas atividades e será lembrada para sempre como uma das maiores bandas de metal de todos os tempos.
